I like first novels, they seem as though the author had a story just waiting to get out. I did not want to put this book down, but then I didn't want it to finish. Characters are well fleshed and the story flows. We are taken back and forth between the night that Ronnie disappeared and present day. Although I didn't think that Suzanne's husband was as difficult as she perceived him, her character's feelings were written well enough to see her as a real person and question/debate her choices. I did want to know more about Emily's feelings and what was on her mind. Modern day has enough story line to keep one's interest and "the night" enough questions to keep one reading.

Sad story; sad lives. I found that author is overly-descriptive of scenes and characters that it detracted from the story itself. She jumped around too much, and it took awhile into a new chapter to determine where she was. I also saw no point in the "Thanksgiving" ending for this book. The relationship between Ronnie and Susanna, should have been incorporated in the body of the book, and could easily have been done in the chapters where Susanna was thinking about her sister or talking to her mother. I certainly would not consider this a mystery, since the reader pretty much knew who did it by midbook. It is a good albeit sad commentary on simple, "plain jane" lives. I would put it more in the sociology category.

Quite a mystery that makes you keep putting puzzle pieces together bit by bit until the very end and everyone in this small is interconnected by the drama that occurs in one way or another. Susanna Mitchell is a wife, mother and a teacher at the local middle school, her husband is the band director at the high school, so you could define them as the All-American couple with their daughter completing the equation. When her eccentric sister goes missing, she must try to keep her cool.

Although I knew who did it pretty early on in the book, the need to know why kept me reading. I give this one a high 3.

I really enjoyed this book. Very suspenseful. Even when I thought I knew what probably happened I still found myself unsure. All of the characters were so real, I felt like I really knew them. Great book!
