This was the first Nelson DeMille book that I have read, and it was very enjoyable. I am planning to read his other books about Detective John Corey.

DeMille does a great job of keeping the story real, and the book is very enjoyable because of the wit that he has written into John Corey's character.

I must admit, this book surprised me. When I first started reading it, I couldn't get into the character. But as I read more, I began to appreciate the character's humor, and his analytical mind. The book is based on the tragedy of TWA flight 800 and tends to try and answer the question that was on everyone's mind.......was it truly a missile that brought the flight down. And who did it? As the main character, John Corey, begins to investigate a five year old mystery, he is met with government coverups and threats to him and those around him that makes him more than ever to want to solve the mystery. I admit that I thought I had the ending figured out, only the have the author use another horrible tragedy as an ending to the book that totally twisted the way I thought it would end. Great book, and one I would highly recommend.

Fascinating tale of two lovers that not only witnessed the explosion of TWA flight 800 over the ocean, but videotaped it while taping themselves skinny dipping in the ocean. They never came forward because they were both married to other people and it was up to John Corey and Kate Mayfield, both Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force Agents, 5 years later to unravel the mystery of the death of TWA flight 800.

It's been awhile, but this is one of the better novels/thrilles I have read. Demille obviously put a lot of thought into it, and he really doesn't come down on one side or the other whether the real LIS plane crash was an accident or a terrorist attack.

The cynical, nearly humorous John Corey is back applying his considerable detective skills for getting to the bottom of the TWA 800 crash. The story keeps going at mystery speed with interesting revelations. Ol' Nelson could use a shot of adrenaline, but overall, he's still pretty readable.

TWA Flight 800 has just exploded in midair with 230 souls on board, and the video camera has recorded the last moments of the doomed airliner. Five years later, the government has declared the crash a result of mechanical failure. But John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective who is now a contract agent with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is persuaded by Kate Mayfield, his wife and task force partner, that the case deserves a second look. Kate, a carrer FBI agent, plays by the rules. Corey plays by no rules but his own. Against long odds and warnings from their superiors, they set out to reopen the case and discover its most crucial piece of evidence. reviewed Night Fall (John Corey, Bk 3) on
The story begins with the 1996 crash of TWA Flight 800 off Long Island, New York. A couple conducting an illicit affair on the beach witness the crash and flee the scene, having accidentally videotaped the crash and what appears to be a missile rising from the ocean towards the plane.

Five years later, Anti-Terrorist Task Force (ATTF, a fictional FBI department based on the Joint Terrorism Task Force) detective John Corey is encouraged to reinvestigate the crash, officially blamed on mechanical failure, by his wife Kate Mayfield, who had worked on the original investigation.

The story is a sequel to The Lion's Game and reintroduces a number of characters from that novel. A sequel to Night Fall, titled Wild Fire, was released on November 6, 2006. One of the returning characters from "The Lion's Game" and "Plum Island" is CIA operative Ted Nash, whom DeMille has developed into Corey's antagonist and nemesis in his career with the ATTF.

Much of the action in the novel centers on the search for the couple who inadvertently videotaped the in-air explosion that brought down TWA Flight 800 off the coast of Long Island. At the center of Corey's investigation are witness statements claiming that the fatal explosion was caused by a missile and not by mechanical failure.

Corey is warned by his superiors not to look into the TWA crash, and he and his wife are temporarily assigned to anti-terrorist activities in Yemen and Tanzania to keep them from pursuing the case. They return to the U.S., however, in early September 2001, and Corey makes crucial discoveries which are quickly overshadowed by the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
