I really enjoyed this book. Piper Macintosh lives in Cape Cod and her 87 year old aunt just sold the historic house next door to Piper to Clate Jackson who bought the house as a retreat from his busy life. Piper trespasses to dig up valerian root for her aunt who considers herself a witch. The book is entertaining and the characters are great.

Carla Neggers' new book Night Scents falls beautifully into the romance genre, but the element of surprise is her captivating knack for suspense, mystery, and drama. She is like an orchestra maestro, driving through a complex work that is sure to incite the most sedate audience to a full range of emotions. From soft sighs of love to intense moments of anxiety, Night Scents is a terrific treat. So what is it that makes this book so enjoyable? Well, tossing a Cape Cod heroine into a romantic situation with a wealthy southern gentleman from Tennessee is a great start, especially when our hero is less gentleman and more rogue. Our heroine, Piper, is a glutton for punishment, going on wild goose chases for her eccentric old aunt in the middle of the night in the hero's backyard. Add to this mix some treasure and a couple of threats. Well, you almost have the makings of a new Agatha Christie mystery. Of course, the romantic encounters between Piper and her Clate are very nearly inspirational. The pace is fast. Emotions fly throughout the story, dragging the reader along for the chaotic ride. In the end, you'll wonder whether you were reading a romance or a mystery, but that is the beauty of Carla's style. This is no bodice-ripper, and I would even say the passion is not of the barn-burning kind. However, the intensity of new love is there, as well as the seductive smiles and smoky bedroom eyes. I salute Night Scents as an innovation and a thrill.Fast...fun...and furious! Is it a mystery with a touch of romance, or a romance with a fist full of mystery? Carla Neggars is spell-binding. Witches, dreams, treasure...all bundled up in a neat love story. Witty and dramatic. Night Scents is like a torrential downpour of attitude.

Piper Macintosh has always gone along with her aunt's crazy ideas. Eighty-Seven-year-old Hannah Macintosh Fry fancies herself a witch and a matchmaker. When she asks Piper to dig up some valerian root for a medicinal tea, Piper goes along with it even though it means trespassing on her neighbor's posted property.

Clate Jackson has just moved into his new home when he finds someone digging up his backyard. He's not happy about the situation and threatens to call the police if it happens again. Piper does not like her grouchy neighbor, but that doesn't stop her from going along with her aunt's next scheme. She wants Piper to look for buried treasure that is somewhere on Clate's property.

This romantic suspense story just did not work for me. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Amanda Dolan. She does a decent job with the characters. One problem was the heroine who just went along with whatever her aunt wanted her to do. The other (bigger) problem was the resolution to the story of the treasure. It was just dumb. My rating: 2 Stars.

This time Piper Macintosh's great-aunt has really gone too far. 87-year old Hannah, who fancies herself a witch, has sold her historic Cape Cod house to a Tennessean whom she claims is THE man for her niece. Piper diesn't think they're a likely match --- particularly not after she meets the reclusive tycoon while transpassing in his garden.

Very entertaining ... it has just about everything. Mystery, romance, humor.

This time Piper Macintosh's eighty seven year old aunt, the resident witch, has done it. Her aunt sells her historic house on Cape Cod to a very rich Tenneaaean whom she says is Piper's sole mate. But in the process puts her niece right in the middle of an eighty year old murder that could get her killed. If you like Carla Neggers you'll love this.

Piper Macintosh has done whatever her great-aunt an eccentric has wanted her to do for a long time. Hannah who thinks she's a witch has gone too far this time. She sells her house to an Tennessean and claims that he is the man for Piper.
Clate Jackson needed a place to chill out. He comes to Cape Cod to think and get away, not to socialize with the locals. Clate and Piper get involved in a mystery. Clate learns that love and family aren't out of his reach if he will just believe.
