Taffy and Malcolm are extremely beleivable charactors in a fantastic faerie filled plot. The plot is fey but the Taffy and Malcolm are 3-D humans.
Part of what makes this book so believalbe is that it is based on real historical fact and the resulting ghost story that sprang up around a real life piper/hero. The real Malcolm knowingly gave his life for what he beleived in. Moreover, the death he suffered was not kind.
This books just gets better the more often you read it.

If you enjoy timeswept stories about the fae & fairies this is a good book. A lot of Scottish history too.
This is an okay book. I just didn't respond to her style.
Beneath the rumbling turrets of Duntrune CAstle, Tafaline heard the call. Many years before, the keep had been captured, betrayed. She had heard the tale; all self-respecting Scots knew of the massacre and of the brave piper who had given his life so that some of its defenders might live. But few saw his face in their sleep, his sad gray eyes touching their souls, his warm hands caressing them like a lover's. And Tafaline was willing to wager that none had heard his sweet voice. But he had been slain so long ago. How was it possible that he now haunted her dreams?

This was a great book. Based in some part on a real event, and embellished upon. I suppose the part of me who believes in faeries really loved the story most. Or maybe it was the part who fancies men in kilts. Perhaps it was the part of me who loves to see a rebelious woman come into her own that really appreciated the story. Then there is always the part of me who loves a happily ever after. Oh, just maybe all parts of me loved it equally!
