The book was disappoint at first, but about half way into it, it became very interesting With Brother Athelstan billed as "a worthy successor to... Brother Cadfael," I had high expectations. I'm not sure yet that Athelstan and Sir John have the same full trusting relationship as CadFael and Hugh, but we'll see what happens in the next book in the series.

I thought the characterization of Brother Athelstan was very good. However, some of the other characters, including Sir John, the other major player, seemed two dimensional.
