It will begin in the heavens... — Never in the history of the world -- of time itself -- had such a thing happened: the delay of sunrise. At firs scientists thought it was a miscalculation, an error of time measurement. But then the sun set early. And the next day rose even later. — Then the bottomless pits began to open around the globe, quiet du...  more »

This original version brings together characters from not only the Repairman Jack and Adversary Cycle series, but also objects and people from some of his other short stories and a few novels. Wilson says he's revising and re-issuing this novel, due to some time line inconsistencies he introduced in recent Jack's novels. I'm not sure it will really change the action and suspense of the original story. So just enjoy the events leading to the longest night the world has every experienced, because Jack remains still this taciturn guy who does things his way, and not very happy about his role.
WARNING: If you don't put it down by Chapter 3, you better make sure you have the next few hours free. It's a page turner. I read it straight through on a dark Saturday evening - which is NOT a good time to read this book! Fortunately, no screeching noises nor furious wind storms appeared that night!

Another excellent novel by F. Paul Wilson. Repairman Jack makes another visit, this time to save the world from his old nemesis Rasalom. Can he win this time? With Glaekens help, who knows? Don't plan on putting this one down until you have finished it...

As I expected, this revised update kept pretty much all of the FPW's original events, but added more cut aways to events happening elsewhere that enlarged or enhanced certain events. One example of the first is we get to see what Abe and Gia ran into as they tried to get to Abe's safe house. It's one of those really suspenseful "noises in the dark" settings that make you appreciate a good shovel and flashlight! The action in Hawaii is an example of both. You get more around the scenes and views from the other participants that we now know better.

The first version pretty much fulfills the need to see how it all ends. The second version gives that AND more, as we see the events from more secondary characters (including the Kickers). It is a richer and deeper experience because we know so many faces from the RJ series instead of just the Adversary Cycle books. The added scenes don't take anything away from the tension or flow because they give us a wider views of things that were just mentioned in the original.

But I will hold to my earlier review: if you're still reading after Chapter 3, then make sure you have the next few hours free and hope you don't get a storm blowing by your house duiring that time!

Enjoy!

PS. The only reason I did not give a 5-star is just on principle.
