I really liked this book, and have already bought a copy to give to one of my scientifically-minded relatives.
The authors are geologists who researched the seabeds of the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea to discover the big changes brought about by the end of a minor glacial period - leading to a major flood, and the dispersal of the local agriculturalists into Europe, Asia and north Africa. They use also genetic, linguistic and even storytelling studies to understand how memory of an event before the invention of writing could survive to the present day.
