Those who forget the past are condemned to eat it, said Santayana. — (Didn't he?) Good thing he didn't teach today, when college students write that during the Dark Ages it was mostly dark and the Civil Rights movement turned around the corner with Martin Luther Junior's famous 'If I Had a Hammer' speech. — Culled by Professor ...  more »

I started reading this book in the wee hours of the morning after doing some 'serious' reading. Once I started it I couldn't put it down and in no time I was finished! I was laughing crazily almost throughout the entire book! This book made me 'feel' smart, but admittedly, there were some historical facts and figures I was unfamiliar with, history being my worst subject. The spelling and grammar mistakes alone were enough to cause one to roar with laughter. One of my favorite passages is on page 15, "Plato invented reality. He was teacher to Harris Tottle, author of 'The Republicans.'" This passage along with many others had me laughing so hard I got a stomach cramp! I really enjoyed this book, but I don't recommend reading it in public or while your family is sleeping.

Hilarious! It helps to have a little knowledge of history first though, in order to understand the humor.

Hilarious! More than one laugh on every page, but the book also tests your own vocabulary and knowledge of history and geography. You find yourself thinking, "What was this student thinking of when he/she wrote this?" I could guess, in the case of "Victims of the Black Death grew boobs on their necks," but confess that "In the 1400 hundreds most Englishmen were perpendicular" has me stumped.

Even if you don't want to try guessing, you will still enjoy gems like "Death rates exceeded one hundred percent in some towns."

A fun read. Henriksson has collected a series of "essays", each of which is comprised of many student's unknowing contributions to form a head-scratching, but uproariously funny book.
