Search and Rescue (SAR) missions by bomber and helicopter pilots over the Gulf of Tonkin in the Vietnam War are the focus of this realistic novel. While an introduction by Tom Clancy adds to the credibility of author Gerry Carroll, only a man with knowledge and combat experience could tell such a story with clarity and emotion. The narrator has a range of voices to simulate the staccato style of conversation between ship personnel and pilots. And when the task force commander makes some remarks at the funeral service of a fallen flyer, the narrator sensitively captures the emotion and maturity of his rough voice.
