In this newest installment of the Cork O'Connor novels, William Kent Krueger has raised his own bar. It begins with a famil vacation oon the remote Lake in the Woods, but a storm sweeps through. Cork and his daughter Jenny end up on an island, separated from the others they were vacationing with.

On this island, Cork and Jenny stumble upon an old cabin with a murdered young woman within. She wasn't killed by the storm, but has been bound, tortured and shot in the head. Further investigation on the island reveals a baby, hungry and alive.

Cork and Jenny want to find out who killed the girl, who the baby belongs to and find the rest of their separated party. After re-connecting with their family and friends, Cork visits the Chief of the Ojibwe for some help and is directed toward Northwest Angle, an isolated and hidden area where children used to paint during the war. There, the killer and Cork come head to head in an explosive conclusion. A thrilling story of family and secrets, Northwest Angle is a page-turning realistic read that I highly recommend to any mystery/thriller reader. I look forward to the next novel by William Kent Krueger - it will be hard to top this one!

I am a fan of the Cork Corcoran series but I feel this one falls a little short of something, it centers around a baby found after a deadly storm leaves them stranded on an island, now--the rest of the book is finding out about the baby--this has been a good series so far and hopefully Krueger will bring it back to the roots of the series and these people, this one is okay but not the best.

Another great book by Krueger. His writing is always so beautiful and I love the native Ojibwa wisdom and spiritual messages that run through his books. In this book detective Cork O'Connor must solve the murder of a young girl who has recently had a baby. Jenny, Cork's daughter, becomes attached to the baby but death seems to follow the child and Cork is determined to find out why. The author's characters always feel so real and his descriptions of the settings make you feel like you are there. The plot begins with a bang and kept my interest all the way through with plenty of action and suspense. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and I highly recommend this series to those who love mystery and adventure.

Always when I think the Cork O'Connor series just can't get any better, the author William Kent Krueger outdoes himself. This is simply why I read books, this one took me on an adventure I won't soon forget and at some point may have to go back and revisit this book again it was so good. Its set on the most northwest part of the contingent 48 states and involves all the characters of this series that I have come to love! Its a tale about a family (the O'Connors) trying to reconnect on a family vacation in the Northwest Angle on a houseboat. While on vacation a huge storm of hurricane proportion sweeps in and with the aftermath of the storm comes suspense, mystery, and intrigue in which only William Kent Krueger can pen a book! This like all of his books was hard to put down, but like most I didn't want it to come to an end. What a ride and an adventure this book takes you and at the end you can reflect about how you can do amazing things when it comes to family. I think the cover may be wrinkled as I was white knuckling it all the way, as the suspense is high-what a thriller. As always I recommend you to take a journey in his books, but would suggest you start with the first book in his series "Iron Lake" and then enjoy and savor each one in order along the way!

Very enjoyable read. Located in part of the US that doesn't usually come up in books. A thriller, a mystery, a love affair, just about anything you want in a good read. Lots of great characters, native american lore, good guys and bad guys (and a hard time telling who is good and who is bad all the time. Engaging reading.

I used to love this series, but since his wife was written out of the series these books have not been that good. This book has been hard for me to get through. Every other sentence is about god or praying. If I wanted a religious experience I would read the bible. I am very disappointed in where this series has gone. Other then all the religious comments this story is drawn out and not very exciting.
