Three female doctors begin five years in training at Embarcadero County Hospital in San Francisco. The story, set against hospital and courtroom, chronicles their lives together and their struggle against those who are determined to see that they don't succeed.
Dr. Paige Taylor - After she inherited a million dollars from a patient whom she 'helped to die' at their request, the District Attorney charged her with murder.
Dr. Kat Hunter - She vowed never to allow a man to get too close to her again...until she accepted the challenge of a deadly bet.
Dr. Honey Taft - To make it in medicine, she knew that she'd need something more then the brains God gave her.
From the life-and-death decisions faced in the operating room to the tension-packed fireworks of a murder trial, Nothing Lasts Forever by Sidney Sheldon lays bare the ambitions and fears of healers and killers, lovers and betrayers.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a wonderful page-turner that I couldn't put down! I do so enjoy Sidney Sheldon as an author, even though I have just recently got back into reading his books after an hiatus of several years. I give this book an A+!

Review from Publishers Weekly:
Aficionados of cliches and stereotypes will derive extraordinary pleasure from practically every page of this formulaic potboiler from the bestselling Sheldon. As the novel opens, Dr. Paige Taylor is on trial for the mercy killing of a patient (Did she off the guy for his fortune?); the action then flashes back five years, when Paige and two other female doctors meet as first-year residents at a San Francisco hospital. Paige is the dedicated one, Kate Hunter (``Kat'') an African American whose mother inspired her to lofty ambitions (``You can be anything you want to be. It's up to you'') and Betty Lou Taft (``Honey''), the plain Southern belle whose diligent application of techniques gleaned from the Kama Sutra has assured her a professional niche. The trials and tribulations of both patients and medicos include suspenseful operations, natural deaths, murder and suicide (``All this time he was calling out for help and I didn't hear him.''). Even Sheldon's typically careful research seems forced and out-of-place: tidbits about African tribal lore and medical terms and procedures only interrupt the bathos.

"Nothing Lasts Forever" is the story of three female physicians which fate brings together. The plot is wonderfully conceived, suspenseful and the three main characters are very well-developed and just as funny and smart as you'd expect your friends to be. For great entertainment this is the book to read.
I couldn't put the book down...fast paced murder trial with twist and turns.
....races from the life and death decisions of a big San Farncisco hopsital to the tension-packed fireworks of a murder trial. Sidney Sheldon proves once again that no reader can outguess the master of the unexpected.

This is an excellent read. Everyone loves Sidney Sheldon.
It's Sidney Sheldon it's steamy and a funny read.
Was it euthanasia or murder the doctor was guily of--especially when a million dollars is at stake.
One of Sheldon's better novels. Easy to follow, as I tend to get lost in some. Rich, story with wonderful characters.
You know, this isn't classic literature, but I really enjoyed it! It kept my attention and was suspenseful. Good book!

Hmm... This is the *white-cover* version. A pretty good read - typical Sheldon look inside the lives of his characters, with a mystery woven through and around them.
This was an excellent book. Well written and hard to put down.
