This book has two stories: "Not Without Risk" and "A Man to Die For.". They are loosely related through two detectives who work together, Jim and Felipe. This book reminded me of the Tall and Dark series because one story was decent while the other was pretty bad.

Not Without Risk - this is Jim's story and it is the decent one. I always dislike plots where one of the characters go into the "I don't deserve to be loved" attitude, but the story was interesting enough to keep me going. On top of it, there is a good reason for Jim's guilt. Emily was a great character. She is a bit of a cryer but I don't blame her and she is tough when it counts. She was too perfect though. I wish she would have given Jim a harder time for messing up the second time. The story was good enough.

A Man to Die For - Felipe's story was so bad I couldn't believe it. I don't mind suspending my belief for a little bit to enjoy a story but not throughout the whole story. Starting from when Carrie and Felipe met where he was supposed to be Carlos the thug (he was undercover), it was unbelievable. In an effort to make Carlos a "decent" thug, Brockmann made him dress and act so different from the rest of the baddies that there was no way they would have accepted him. Later when they meet up again, Carrie doesn't really try to escape from him when he kidnaps her. She has no reason to trust him and what makes it worse is that she talks tough which makes her just seem like an annoying idiot. There are more instances where the characters' behavior makes no sense whatsoever and I had to stop reading because it was frustrating and a waste of time.

It is okay if you can get this from the library but I wouldn't waste credits on it.

Amazing!! I loved these two love stories. Both men believe they aren't good enough.
