Not a horrid book, but I'm definitely not going to kill myself looking for the sequels.
There is a decent plot, but the characters occasionally made me want to drive a stake through my brain. For a former lawyer, I thought the main character was painfully slow. Every time you flipped the page, the author was describing the lack of maternity clothes that fit in the main character's closet. How about the main character stop by Walmart on the way to the prison. Come on, she only needed 2 or 3 tops. Instead, she spends all her time following people, comforting the victim's daughter and surfing the net to find the killer.
While this was a quick cozy to read, it did take effort for me to stay in the story. The overall story was pretty good and I did enjoy the family dynamics. I just felt the main character could have seriously benefited for a good smack upside the head.

I recently read an article about the author Ayelet Waldman and her husband Michael Chabon in a book magazine. Although I knew about some of their more recent titles, I wasn't aware that Waldman had written a series of books which she dubbed the Mommy-Track mysteries. Intrigued by the premise of a one time defense attorney, now a stay at home mom and pseudo private eye, I found myself gulping down the pages of the first book Nursery Crimes. Not only did I enjoy this book and recommend it, but I rushed out to get the second book as soon as I finished the first one. Finding a new author is always a pleasure and I expect to continue reading Ayelet Waldman as quickly as she publishes more books in this series or other titles as well.

What fun! As a stay at home mom, I really enjoyed this lady's spunk and her similar experiences with parenting.
