I enjoyed this book, though I did have to struggle to get through it at times. It didn't "grab me" like some other books. It's got a bit of a noir feel to it, with some sci-fi and horror thrown in. The basic premise is a vampire PI investigating a rash of nymphomania at a secret government facility. For a book about nymphomania outbreaks, there is surprisingly little sex, but it doesn't harm the book at all. The main character is interesting and well drawn, and the mystery is well done. Overall a good, funny book, but don't get it if you're expecting a romantic "paranormal" kind of book. This one is more Sam Spade than Anita Blake, regardless of the presence of vampires and dryads.

WOW! What could be better. A vampire playing detective, to find out why their are nymphos in a town near area 51.... and aliens! This book has it all. It is a fast read, and fun. I didn't love the book, but I couldn't put it down.

If you're one of the vast flock of vampire lovers currently buying books like crazy, you'll probably like this one. Personally, I think that a book with a title like "The Nymphos of Rocky Flats" should actually have a little sex in it. I didn't mind reading it, but I certainly didn't feel compelled to buy any more in the series.

This is a literary novel masquerading as a genre vampire mystery, so don't be confused by the cover. The premise was interesting but I didn't care for the characters, nor did I find it particularly funny. The main character could have been so much more interesting, but he just seemed flat; actually all the characters struck the same chord with me. I liked the world-building, and that's what kept me reading to the conclusion.

i thought this book would be funny & sexy. by chapter 5 i was not interested in it anymore, but in for a penny in for a pound! and yes i did finish reading it too! i even read two other books in between this one- boring. i would NOT recomend this one and a deleted the others off my wish list. better luck next time mario! title of book should be: Boring vampire, and no plot & nymphos? come on-flies could get better sex than what was in this book-none. Zzzzzzz.

A real page turner! A great fun read - not quite what one might expect from the title. The author may be writing stories about vampires from personal experience - he sure had me enthralled right from the start!
Caution! You may find this to be true also!

Book cover and description mislead you into thinking that the books is funny. Not the case. It was a rough start to the series, but if you can read through this first book, the subsequent books do get a lot more entertaining (and funny).

Totally enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, loved the storyline and there was enough action to make me want to keep reading and not put the book down. Loved the twists on the vampire tale and loved the way that more than just vamps are introduced. Can't wait to read the next book 'X-Rated Blood Suckers'.

Zany book! Very funny, fast-paced, and easy to read. I liked the new take on vampires and the world-building too. The aura thing was neat! I found myself flying through this and wanting to just sit down and read until I was all the way through! Although I wasn't quite as thrilled with the ending as I expected to be. I can't say much without giving things away, but...maybe there was just one thing too many, or something like that. It works just fine - I just would have gone a different way with it, maybe. Still a very fun book, which I'd recommend to anyone interested in vamps, or light-hearted takes on government conspiracies, or lovers of wacky dark humor, or kooky P.I. novels.... :)
The recent trend of pulling vampire and paranormal stories out of the pure, plodding horror genre and making them more humorous is one I've been having a great time with. I hope it's not too much of a fad so it sticks around for a while!

Light and easy read, at times laugh out loud funny. I kept it in my car for those times when I needed a book - ER visits, chaperon duty, etc., because it was easy to get right back into it no matter how long it had been since I last picked it up.. To be honest I got the book because I liked the picture on the cover. (Watching people's double takes to make sure they read the title right is fun, too)

Interesting premise, but fell a little bit flat. My spouse started reading this one and couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. It does pick up if you stick with it. I just finished the second book in the series (X Rated Bloodsuckers) and enjoyed it much more. Maybe it was the addition of the sidekick in the second book (Coyote) that gave Felix someone to play against and add humor to the story.

A very different kind of book than what I'm used to reading. Think of Tom Selleck as a vampire PI. Women throwing themselves at him while he's trying to run an investigation. I'm also not used to reading male authors. This is not a romance, but it does have a few steamy scenes. The humor is laugh out loud funny at times. Don't go into this book thinking it's a hot and steamy romance. This is a paranormal murder mystery novel. Definitely a new take on the typical old novels. Mario is a funny guy, read his stuff! You just might like it!

This was just not my style of book. I thought it moved a bit slow and the way he got his blood was pretty gross. He 1) didnt drink human blood, only animal blood, and 2)he got his blood by smothering regular food in it (blood) like pasta (rather than from a neck). I stopped reading it halfway through cause it was blah and the whole food thing.

It was ok. I tried it out expecting it to be along the lines of a Laurell Hamilton-esque book but was disappointed. It felt as if the author was trying to keep it PG at times or was too afraid to go "there". Interesting enough to read completely but not to highly recommend as a must read. I've seen better reviews on the follow-up so I'll probably give it another go.
A different twist on the vampire story.Great book.I can not wait to read the next book in the series.

Once I decided I was all right with the premise of a vampire as a Private Investigator, I enjoyed this book a lot. Some of it was very funny, such as when our hero Felix Gomez is hiding in a culvert and finds himself staring down a raccoon. Felix is a "good" vampire, who doesn't want to feast on human blood (due to guilt from his time serving in Iraq), but he's finding that a steady diet of animal blood is weakening his vampire powers. Quick read, well-written story!

This was a ridiculous book and I quite enjoyed it. Mario Acevedo has the government speak down perfectly for the Rocky Flats scenes. I had to laugh out loud at the first few top secret pages to this book as it is so like these institutions. Having recently walked away from one after over a decade of service, I can tell Acevedo did his stint in bureaucratic hell too.
So lets talk about the ladies. Yes, there are female nymphos, but Denver seems to have more than the average and they all once worked at Rocky Flats, at least until their hornyness got them fired. Yes, having sex on the job even at nuclear weapons facilities is frowned upon. Of course Felixs interviews with them leads to some awkward (and funny) scenes.
Towards the end, I did feel the author tried to pull in a little too much for this one book. I dont want to spoil anything, but it was one more mystery, and something totally different from what was already going on. Still, I wonder what was done with it in Book 2.
One of the things I enjoyed (and it is with a naughty grin that I enjoyed it) was that Felix tended to knock people out and then pose then in questionable positions. Hehe.hes my kind of vampire.
I will definitely be looking to read more in this series, especially when I need a chuckle and something light to pick me up with questionable humor. I think I can safely classify this book as one of my guilty pleasures.

I was a little hesitant to read at first. There were quite a few reviews that said this book was slow & boring. I'm glad I read this book. It was pretty good. A different view on vampires once again. Some unique characters are introduced. If you look for alot of hot steamy sex scenes you wont find them in here. There are some steamy scenes but nothing graphic. I will gladly continue reading other books in this series.

This was a lot of fun.
And... this is going to be my last. I couldn't suspend reality enough and enjoy the story. I didn't even get to any of the sex parts. I had to stop after the fourth chapter. After reading Robert Littell (spy thriller), David Morell (action thriller), and Gerald Browne (jewel thriller), this was just ... well... not satisfying. Sorry, not for me.

I forgot as I was reading this that it was not a romance and the vampires are not the good guys and the hero is not a hero. That being said, I hated Felix Gomez. I didn't find anything even remotely attractive or likeable about him. I totally had to force myself to continue reading this book and to finish it. It ended well, sort of, but the journey was so not worth the missing hours required to actually read this book.
