Most interesting idea for a book I have seen for a long time. A private detective just starting on a missing persons case is stricken with blackouts, headaches, a cerebral hemorrhage. The news only gets worse from there! He is determined to get back to the case but those holes in his memory really get in the way! A fascinating read.

Nick Petrov, a PI with a reputation for finding lost children, has become something of a celebrity as a result. The story of his most famous case was immortalized in a made-for-TV-movies starring Armand Assante as Nick and Kim Delaney as now-police chief Elaine Kostelnik, the other woman who broke up his marriage. When a woman approaches him for help in locating her teenage daughter, he senses something isnt quite right. As he begins his investigation, he experiences headaches, unusual sensations, vivid memories hes never had before. Just as all the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together, he wakes up in a hospital room missing 2 weeks of his life and there are large gaps in his memory of the days before, including the investigation in which he was engaged. This was a pretty good mystery, but most of all a fascinating exploration of memory and self.
Better than I expected - reminded me very much of that movie, Memento. (Spoiler: you really have to suspend some disbelief when he's sent home from the hospital with such incredible short term memory loss and no home care back-up arrangements!).
Well-done, worth reading though a little pat, just for the flash back and memory scenes.

Quite different but definitely quite good. I liked the plot, the character development and the ending. Would recommend that you give it a try. I'll read more by this author.
This makes for a good quick read. If the topic of memory loss and mystery interest you, I would recommend the movie _Momento_.
Honestly did not care for this storyline! Thought it would be great when I read the cover.....but was very disappointed!
I see a lot of mixed reviews about Oblivion. I thought it was an exceptional book and the whole premise outstanding.
PI Nick Petrov is well known for finding missing persons and will always be remembered for his hand in locating and bringing down a serial killer who tortured and killed 6 women before being stopped.
The largest character of this book is his amnesa due to a brain tumor. For such a smart and organized man, losing 2 weeks out of your life is like being in a cage. Slowly but surely he starts piecing together partial clues when his brain misfires and has memory hallucinations.
Having the brain tumor also changes Nick's personality. He's become a kinder, gentler man,,,especially in dealing with his son who lives with his mother. He may have lost some of his brain cells, but he's developed a heart.
It's fun watching him put his life back together in order to find a missing young teenager. The author does an excellent job is showing us the character's frustration and sometimes anger with himself. And he really, really hates to ask for help.
I liked the characters .... I liked the storyline...and now I'm going to be looking for any other of his books. Not so much blood and guts with this one, but any time reading this one will not be wasted. 5 Stars.

This guy has been one of my fav authors for a while. The plot of this book is different. Very enjoyable.
An excellent book with an orginal plot. I couldn't put it down.
* * * Interesting premise. Private investigator searches for missing girl and then loses memory. The book may seem like it might border on the redundant, but the action moves along with its murders, cliff hangers and revelations, oh my!
Interesting premise.
