For the woman who wants to make informed decisions about her care while pregnant, in labor, & after delivery, this book is invaluable. It's very well laid out, with each issue having an overall discussion, a list of salient points, and then the research citations & briefs which support those views.

A bit 'heavy' for the average person, but doesn't require a college degree to understand. Every Doula and midwife should have a copy to lend to clients, and this should be required reading for every doctor who hopes to work with pregnant or laboring women.

Evidence-based care and informed consent are not just fads, they're best for patients. Informed consent is required by law, but way too often the information given isn't complete and / or is biased, inaccurate, etc.
