Another Peggy Rathmann book that we fell in love with! My grandkids had fun reading Officer Buckle's notes throughout the book. Officer Buckle is the safety officer but he doesn't make an impact until Gloria the police dog becomes his partner. Gloria wakes the kids up and gets their attention. Meanwhile, Napville becomes a much more safe place. They are filmed and Officer Buckles sees that it's because of Gloria that he's had so much success-he gets bummed and gives up the safety speaking tour. Napville ends up having a huge disaster and he sees how much his message is still needed and how much his partner needs him too. It's a fun way to learn about safety and to have the kids spot the unsafe and safe ways of doing things. Highly recommend!
Clever story. Cute illustrations. One that adults can enjoy as much as the kids. I was pleasantly surprised, too, when our 3-year-old and 5-year-old started coming up with their own "safety tips", some genuine and some silly, after reading this story.
This book is an extremely fun read. The illustrations truly express the story's text. It will immediately be a book shelf favorite.
The children at Napville School never used to listen to Officer Buckle as he talked to them about safety tips, that is, until he started to bring his police dog Gloria with him. The children stared with rapt attention as Officer Buckle gave safety tips, so long as he brought Gloria along, as she did tricks while Officer Buckle spoke. This book is very cute! My daughter loved it! :)
