A well-written intriguing police procedural with lots of moral ambiguity and twists. Told from a woman officer's perspective, it's a unique book in my experience. I really enjoyed it.

I received this book from another PBS member and by that night I had finished the book. I couldn't put it down! I'm anxious to read the next one. I liked the twists at the end.
From from cover:
Chicago police officer Samantha Mack's gun killer her partner during an impromptu sting. But who pulled the trigger?
I read this practically in one sitting - it is that good. I hope it is the start of a series. Samantha definitely has more stories to tell.

I loved this book, and couldn't put it down until it finished. Then once it did finish I wished it was longer. This was the best book I've read in a very long time.
I bought this book because it was the author's first and she was a "local gal". Book is so-so, and a litte slow moving. Everything happens towards the end, got a tad draggy in the middle. Over all, an okay read for the beach, riding on a bus or while waiting at the doctor's office.
Not my cup of tea, but maybe someone else will enjoy it...
Excellent first book--winner of the Edgar for first novel. I wish her later books would follow the heroine.
Great read, strong woman character. Won Edgar Award for best first novel.
Samantha didn't shoot her partner but noone believes her. She was knocked out but she knows she didn't do it. Follow her path as she tries to clear her name.
Very good book! Lots of fast-paced excitement. Enjoyed it and will be searching for more of Schwegel's books!!!
very interesting police story seen from the woman's side, good cop being blamed for her partner's murder, twists you don't expect.
