The protagonist in this story takes on many roles, one is chameleon-like,one the humble student and observer, and the last one I won't spoil but it isn't necessarily a letdown. Tobias Wolff is an excellent writer who exhibits true depth and contrary values. He has earned his way onto my favorite lists, along with Joyce Carol Oates,Margaret Atwood, J.M Coetzze ,Saul Bellow among many others!! Highly Recommended!

Though the writing was excellent, I found the characters poorly developed and the plot boring.

Very nice story. Dragged a bit in the middle, but then you didn't want it to end.
