This book is the first in a series of six novels (so far). Nothing happens for one half of the book; the plotline is tedious. A retired colonel retires in the usual rural English countryside. Generally, the characters are dull and lifeless. In fact, calling the characters cardboard-like is an insult to cardboard. I kept waiting for the action to begin.
