Once in a blue moon. wondeerful story about family and the seperate journey they take///sister completely different yet they find love between them. happy ending too.
I enjoy most of Eileen Goudge's books, but this one was a rare disappointment. It felt like a recycled story, something that I've read before from other authors, or a Lifetime movie that I may have seen. I could not finish it.
This novel addresses many more issues than I'd expected; however, it's merely a cursory treatment. I think the author did a good job discussing and describing addiction, though. I felt like I somewhat understood the character of Kerrie Ann, even if I didn't care for her.
Kerrie Ann never seemed quite real to me. Based on personal experience, adults who accuse others of looking down on them or "thinking I'm a screw-up" before anything's ever been said or done are generally into drama for its own sake. I couldn't get past this about her; she lashed out at everyone who looked at her, like an animal. A woman in her late twenties who clutches her self-given title of "loser" does so because she's too lazy to change. I quickly grew tired of her predictable outbursts.
Lindsay wasn't much better of a character. She had no depth and although Goudge was attempting to make her stodgy, she ended up making her flat.
Plot-wise the complexity and storylines grew steadily and I enjoyed how the story unfolded. Maybe I just needed a "light" story. This sufficed.

I thought that this book was absolutely excellent. I found myself really caring about what happened to these characters next; I was thoroughly immersed in the plot and found the story to be incredibly poignant. I give Once in a Blue Moon by Eileen Goudge an A+! and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
