I stayed up all night to finish this book in one day. It's an amazing read. I loved the humor that she brought to such a serious matter. Watching Dorthea try to fit into modern day society after having been isolated all her life was a blast. But there was always the seriousness of the plot in the background as well. The characters had depth and were so easy to like, flaws and all.

This book was wonderful! It causes one to think of the consequences of reactions to circumstances that are beyond our control. I could not believe how drawn into the story I was, and I found myself questioning what I would do in the same situation and how the outcome may have (or have not)changed from that in the book.

I didn't want to put this book down. The author jumps flawlessly between speakers and time periods, showing that our lives can change in just one day. Tucker writes the book in the form of a mystery, though, so that how the characters tie together and have made their life choices is not seen immediately.

great read - multi-layered plot - how a single day can change lives

This was OK. I was drawn in and read it quickly but I felt the situation was highly unlikely so I had to suspend disbelief. Tucker writes well and the story was interesting if you can manage to suspend that disbelief. Mystery and little bit of a morality tale. Good for an airplane/train ride when you want to be sucked in but not have to thing too hard.

I loved this book. I read it a while back & I can still remember details....this is my favorite out of Lisa Tucker's books & I just finished The Cure For Modern Life, which was good but no where near as good as Once Upon A Day.

This was a wonderful book, very easy to read. Dark in some parts, but the writing and plot kept me interested.

I loved this book! The storyline kept me hooked! It's about so much more than just the fact that the kids grew up isolated; there are lots of different issues interwoven into the story and gives you a lot to think about. This would definitely be great for book clubs too!

The book is well written and keeps your interest throughout, though I don't know how plausible several major facets of the book would be in today's world.
