I love a good mystery story, one that is well-told, that leaves me guessing, gasping for breath, and feeling satisfied for having read it! Please know, everyone,Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine is just the author of such genre that you want! This is one of her first books, and I just loved it! Sorry it had to end, but what an ending it was! Stanley is not a happy man: His mother-in-law Maud lives with him and his wife Vera. Not only does she constantly bicker with Stanley, and interrupts his favorite pastime of solving cross-word puzzles, but she also wants Vera to leave her good-for-nothing low-life husband.
