Another good Harlan Coben. I wouldn't say it's his best though. I thought the ending was a little too stretched out and sort of a lame twist...but overall I enjoyed the book.

Another great one by Harlan Coben. He is the master of the genre. Plot twists and clues revealed most unexpectedly keep you guessing right up until the end. And just when you think the story is over and all has been revealed--BAM--a new twist. Great book!

At first I had a hard time getting into this, but I stuck with it, and wow, am I glad I did! Coben does a good job of developing the characters.

Grace Lawson finds an od photo, one she didn't take, in a set of newly developed photos she picks up. She doesn't recognize any of the people in it, but one looks a lot like her husband, Jack. When Jack sees the photo, he leaves in the family car with no explanation and disappears, taking the photo with him.

Grace struggles to keep her and their childrens' lives as normal as possible while she begins to search for her husband. The path to discovering his whereabouts and the reason for his leaving takes many twists and turns, with quite a surprising ending!

Grace Lawson is a happily married mother whose life is turned upside down after she receives an old photograph of her husband with a group of people. When she asks her husband Jack about the photos origins, he immediately disappears. When he finally telephones briefly, Grace senses that he is in danger. Her efforts to protect her family force her to investigate secrets which others will kill to protect.

Like all of Harlan Coben's standalone thrillers, Just One Look is very suspenseful. The super-scary Eric Wu is back,. The occasional violent scenes are balanced by warm ones; indeed one of Coben's strengths is creating characters you cheer for because they act with the interests of their loved ones at heart.

The ending (which I will not give away) was complicated and perhaps a bit more contrived than some of his other books. Coben's books are always worth the ride though.

This was a book I couldn't put down. Every chapter layers the story with another puzzle piece, until the final chapter, which had some unexpected twists. Harlan Coben writes the "Myron Bolitar" series of suspense novels, which are fantastic! This book, while not one of the Bolitar series, makes some tiny references to characters or events in the Bolitar novels, and it's really fun to recognize them as such. (Don't worry, it's not at all necessary to have read the Bolitar novel, to enjoy this one!)

I am always looking for new authors for mysteries or thrillers. I just discovered Coben, and found this book very engaging and unexpected.
Grace Lawson picks up a newly developed set of family photos, only to discover a mysterious photo which doesn't seem to belong..until she begins to discover that it is a picture of her husband from many years ago. The plot which develops is not the usual predictable story line.

IF YOU LIKE LABYRINTHS
This was my third Harlan Coben novel, after Tell No One and No Second Chance. Despite the thrills and chills, I couldn't quite connect with the characters. If you never identify with the main characters in some essential way, it's hard to care what ultimately happens to them. Some indefinable magnetism was missing this time. That's all I can blame. The plot and dialogue were as inventive as ever.

Grace Lawson's seemingly perfect life begins to unravel when an old photograph shows up in the middle of her newly developed pictures. The photo has four people, one of which is her husband, Jack, at a younger age. When she shows Jack the picture, he denies that it is him and soon disappears. Grace and their two children are left wondering where he went and who are the other people in the photo. It soon becomes apparent that others are searching for Jack, and one of the people in the picture was murdered over 15 years ago. Grace doesn't know where to turn, who to trust, or how to find her husband.

This book hooks you from the beginning and doesn't let go. It is full of mysterious people, all of who have an agenda. It also has one of fictions scariest villains in hitman Eric Wu. I liked the story and thought Grace made all of the right moves in trying to find her husband; but the story did seem to lose steam toward the end. My rating: 4 Stars.

This is my second book by this author. I really like him. It was a great read. Some books take you a while to get into it. Not this one. I couldn't put it down after the first couple of pages. I also liked that I couldn't figure out the ending as much as I tried. I prefer a challenge and don't enjoy a suspense book as much when the ending is predictable. Not this one in anyway possible.

For most of the book, I was totally prepared to give this 4 stars, as it hooked me right away and was so suspenseful that I read it in a couple of days. Then I got to then end, which just seemed really implausible and gave the impression that the author had started with a list of characters he wanted to include, then crafted a plot around them...So the 3 stars are for everything before the ending.

- The Master Of Twists and Turns -
I had the pleasure of meeting Harlan Coben once during an impromptu book signing and I am glad I did. I am still new to mysteries (being a mainly sci-fi/fantasy reader) but reading his work has been nothing but great pleasure.
I have noticed that he is truly a master of the twist, that is, the unexpected hitting you full force just when you think you have figured it all out. I read this novel within four hours and was not disappointed in the least. It all starts with a photograph found by a suburban wife while picking up her children from school. From there begins a story involving an ice cold Asian assassin, a husband who is more than meets the eye, and a 15 year old rock concert that changed the lives of everyone within the novel. This novel, like so many of his others novels, kept me guessing to the very end.
Highly recommended.

Grace Lawson is living a happy, straightforward life in the suburbs with her husband, Jack and two young children. But that security is about to come to a brutal end. For when Grace picks up a set of holiday snaps, among them is one shot that doesn't fit: a faded image that Grace doesn't recognise of her husband as she never knew him. Within twelve hours, Jack has disappeared and a brutal hitman is stalking his family. All Grace can see is that the past is coming back to haunt the present - and the safe world she knows has been turned upside down......

The premise is simple enough: suburban housewife Grace Lawson collects some pictures at the local Photomat; inexplicably, one is an old print depicting her husband, Jack, with other college students; when Grace shows the photo to Jack, he drives away-and disappears. Grace's hunt for her missing husband, whom we learn has been kidnapped (but why? and Coben fans will note that the author's last novel also hinged on a kidnapped family member), sweeps her back into a nightmare she thought she'd escaped: the evening years ago when she survived a rock concert rampage, occasioned by a shooting that left many dead. Meanwhile, Eric Wu, a-dare we say?-inscrutable martial-arts killer who has snatched Jack for reasons unknown, menaces assorted folk. Eventually Grace, aided by a Gotti-like mobster whose child was killed in the rampage, gloms on to Wu, as well as on to Jack's sister, a high-powered attorney who, it turns out, is representing the guy who started the rampage by firing his gun. Only he didn't start the rampage after all, and then there's the rock star who vanished after the shooting and resultant mayhem-what's he now doing on Grace's doorstep?

In the days that follow, plagued by doubts about her marriage and herself, Grace begins to realize that others are looking for Jack and the photograph -- including one fierce, silent killer who will stop at nothing. When the police won't help her, and neighbors and friends alike seem to have agendas of their own, she must confront the dark corners of her own tragic past to keep her children safe and learn the truth that might bring her husband home.

This is really just a 2.5 star read. I found it tedious and the female lead irritating. The storyline didn't mesh and I found myself not really caring who, what or why. To me that is the kiss of death for a book. I was listening to this on audio so I kept going and heard it all. I've liked all the previous Harlan Coben books I've read except for the Myron Bolitar series - these are sports related and just not of interest to me. I can honestly say that this just didn't have anything to keep you interested. All the characters were boring as hell and the storyline was to vague and not exciting enough to need to unravel the mystery. Just blah.

An ordinary snapshot causes a suburban mother's world to unravel in an instant. When Grace Lawson picks up a newly developed set of family photographs, there is a picture that doesn't belong-a photo from at least twenty years ago. In the photo are five people: four Grace can't recognize and one that looks strikingly like her husband, Jack.
When Jack sees the photo, he denies he's the man in it. But later that night, while Grace lies in bed waiting, he drives away in the family's minivan without an explantion, taking the photograph with him.
Not knowing where he went or why he left, Grace struggles alone to sheild her children from Jack's absence in the days that follow. Each passing day brings only doubts about herself and her marriage and yet more unanswered questions about Jack, along with the realization that there are others looking for Jack and the photograph-including one, fierce, silent killer who will not be stopped from finding his quarry, no matter who or what stands in his way.
A great on the edge of your seat thriller.

Great suspenseful story, lovin Coben's writing. The ending seemed a bit rushed, but didn't distract from the good story.

Enjoyed this book very much. Plot twists, good character development, and interesting ending...all typical of Harlan Coben. I had a problem with keeping everyone separate and in their appropriate places. I found that I needed to write down who was who, etc., so when I put the book down and came back to it a day or so later, I could identify quickly who that person was and how they related to the storyline so far. All-in-all, a very good read and I didn't want to put the book down during the last chapter and the Epilogue.

My first Coben. I normally only read female authors, but this storyline caught my interest. Wow. Really enjoyed the writing style and kept me intrigued all the way through. Will be reading more Coben for sure. Highly recommend if you like Karen Robards, Lisa Gardner, etc. Yes it was a bit far fetched, and some overly gory details, but it was a realistic story with depth of characters so it gets a thumbs up from me.
