If you're looking for a decent fast moving horror novel, this is a good one. In the first few chapters, it bounces between a few different sets of people and situations and I had a tough time keeping people straight, but the pieces began to fall into place and the whole story moved quickly. Suspense, Gore, Sex, it's all in there.

This was a fun (but rather silly) gory adventure. It was a suspenseful read and certainly grisly with its violence, but definitely entertaining. The main vein of the plot - a black rain falls from the sky, transforming those who get wet - was certainly unique, and the opening scene was downright shocking. The explanation of the rain was not the high point in the book, but it didn't detract from the fun of this horrific read.

After reading Bite, Island and Body Rides, I was a little put off with Laymon's style of writing. Of the three, Island was the best but still a little disappointing to me. One Rainy Night has put him at the front of the line for must read material. This was one heckuva book. Fast paced, sexy and most of all.... exciting. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. He did not waste hundreds of pages explaining details. He explained everything along the way to a satisfying conclusion. Excellent Book!

Stephen King says"If You've Missed Laymon,You've missed a treat". I wholly concur-You either loove him or you dislike him. He is not for the prudish or squeamish!

The strange black rain falls like a shroud on the small town of Bixby. It comes down in torrents, warm and unnatural. And as it falls, the town changes. One by one, the inhabitants fall prey to its horrifying effect. One by one, they become filled with hate and rage....and the need to kill.

WOW! From the first couple of pages this book grabs you and does not let go. Once you start be prepared, be very prepared and ready to just get lost with the time. It's gruesome and vivid, wild and oh man, what can I say? This is for those that love to be on the edge while reading, it will mess with you if you are not already armored with being in these kinds of books already.

The author Richard Laymon I understand now deceased, sure gives Mister's King, Barker, Koontz plus others a run for truly horrific horror. Splatter Punk is a pretty good genre to put this under.

Interesting premise too.

This was my first Richard Laymon book and so far the best I've read. It will get you hooked on him if you read it. It's pretty graphic so be warned.

From the back of the book...

The strange black rain falls like a shroud on the small town of Bixby. It comes down in torrents, warm and unnatural. And as it falls, the town changes. One by one, the inhabitants fall prey to its horrifying effect. One by one, they become filled with hate and rage...and the need to kill.

Formerly friendly neighbors turn into crazed maniacs. A stranger at a gas station shoves a nozzle down a customer's throat and pulls the trigger. A soaking-wet line of movie-goers smashes its way into a theater to slaughter the people inside. A loving wife attacks her husband, still beating his head against the floor long after he's dead. As the rain falls, blood flows in the gutters - and terror runs through the streets.

Another great Laymon read. there isn't anything he wrote that I didn't devour in a dsy or two. If he lived longer he would of become more known and popular then King or Koontz!

This was the first Laymon book I ever read. I was finished in one night! It was that good! I kept reading and never put it down until it was finished. The rain turns people into relentless killers.
