I read both good and bad reviews about this. I read all the CIA superspy/toughguy novels. The first 100 pages, I agree with other reviews are not well developed and thin, but its just a setup for the rest which is fun reading. Its the guys first book, I will definitely get the next.
Pike Logan's down and out and living on a decrepit boat in a drunken depression after a terrible loss which he feels responsible for. Things take a turn when he saves a young woman (Jennifer) from two thugs, which is where the pace gears up and it doesn't slacken until the last page is turned. Pike was a member of an elite, clandestine team until the tragedy which sent him into a depression until things change when this young lady is almost killed.
She is being stalked because her uncle has disappeared and he supposedly sent her something which the men want. Pike begrudgingly agrees to help her find her uncle, which begins an adventure that will uncover a plot so heinous that it has world wide ramifications and Pike needs to make his old unit leaders understand that it is an imminent threat to the world. He has a wicked sense of humor and it comes out in the dialogue when you least expect it. He is a hero that has to overcome a great sadness but, ultimately, he rises to the rescue of this young lady and stops WW3.
I am going to read the next in the series and recommend this to my book club.

Excellent book. I could not put it down. I hope he writes more in this series.
Commissioned at the highest level of the U.S. government, the fighting team known as Taskforce operates outside the law. Pike Logan was the most successful operator on the Taskforce until tragedy permanently altered his outlook. Pike knows what the rest of the country might not want to admit: the real threat is one or two men in possession of a powerful weapon. Buried in a stack of intercepted chatter is evidence of two such men-their attack only days away. It is their bad luck that they're about to cross paths with Pike Logan...
GREAT read ... almost 2 books in one ... billed as a "debut novel" ... I can't wait for the next one ... hopefully Pike logan will be back again ... riveting story line(s) ... fast paced .... kept me up at night several times, could not stop reading
When I started reading the book I was so disappointed. The first 20 pages I'd give a 3, the next 20 a 1, then bam the rest of the book I've give 5+. I couldn't put it down. I really want to follow Taylor's Pike in all of his books. You can't go wrong with this one.
