This book has challenged me to live life differently after reading it. . .Ann Voskamp shares snippets of her life in a series of essays. The first couple echo her hurting heart and the rest offer pieces of how she changed spiritually through another's dare to give thanks for 1000 gifts. Ultimately her list of God-given gifts turns into better relationships, especially with the Giver of those gifts, and continuing a lifetime of giving thanks.
Even in facing her life's challenges, her prose is beautiful. This is one I have to keep; this is one to re-read as I make my own list of 1,000 gifts. I highly recommend it. Also, it is a Christian book and faith in Christ is a key component of this book.

I absolutely adored this book! When I first got it, I gobbled it up in 2 days and then began to read it again, slowly and more thoughtfully. Ive been in the habit of keeping a grateful journal for a few years now, so I was excited that this was the topic of the book. Some days I can only think of 5 or 10 things, but having read this book, I bet I can think of much more now!
This is a Christian themed book, so may not appeal to everyone, but if you can walk outside and see the beauty of a gorgeous sunset, or the miracle of a butterfly, I think youll appreciate this book!
The author is a writer, living on a farm with her husband and 6 children. Shes super busy, but finds the time and the scriptural basis for thanking God for everything. Shes very descriptive and quotes scripture as she herself learns what it means to give thanks and leads us on our own (hopefully!) journey. I enjoyed the ride and learned a lot! Im not quite ready to let this book go but I hope to soon!

A bit of a hard read at some points in the style that it is written, but filled with such challenging goodness. Worth the read! It has challenged me to keep my eyes & ears open to the "gifts" in my own life.

Not a book I would recommend. I couldn't get past page 27. I try to give every book I read the benefit of the doubt and read to page 100. This one I just couldn't stick with it. It gave me a headache trying to understand her style of writing. Voskamp's style of writing is choppy and uses way too many adjectives. I am sorry I wasted $5.00 on this book.

What an inspiration, cutting to the soul and very real. She is able to pierce the dark world of our own self seeking and reveal the Glorious truth of God's care for our souls.
