Time for another great installment from the small Texas town of Harmony. As usual, Jodi Thomas weaves three story lines effortlessly into a well-rounded book. There are old and new characters; but the best is the return of country singer, Beau Yates. After achieving significant fame in Nashville, Beau is called back to Harmony because his father, Preacher Yates, is on his death bed.
It says much about Beau's character that he returns to his roots to attempt a reconciliation with his father who scorned his music and life. He tries to meet with his father as just Beau, not the famous singer. Thomas does a wonderful job of showing the emptiness of the Preacher's life.
While trying to resolve some of his father's debts, Beau runs into Trouble (the girl in the red Mustang convertible). Her name is Ashley "Lark" Powers and she is vice-president of the local bank. Although they would like to recapture their carefree teen years, they have matured and must reevaluate their feelings for each other through adult eyes.
The main story is about involuntarily-retired Captain Millanie McAllen. Injured in action, Millanie returns to the town she considers home, although she hasn't lived there since adolescence. At the airport, she meets Andrew "Drew" Cunningham, who offers her a ride home to Harmony. She soon learns that he has lived in town about 5 years, but won't discuss his past.
The fun part of this novel involves Drew's sister, Karaleen "Kare" Cunningham, the local fortune-teller at the bookstore. Johnny Wheeler, a local farmer, goes to her to have his fortune told. His wife has recently left him for someone everyone in town thought was gay. With his hand extended, Kare tells him she thinks he is going to be arrested soon. Behind Johnny, the law is poised to arrest him on suspicion of the murder of his wife, Scarlett.
Kare is sure Johnny is innocent but she lives slightly south of reality. Is Johnny going to die for the murder of his wife and her lover? Can Kare really help free him?
This is a very satisfying continuation of this series.

What's not to like in a Jodi Thomas book. I just like her story lines so read her all the time.
