Middle of the road Regency with a far-fetched premise. This is not the worst i have ever read, but certainly not the best. If not for the date at the outset, the back cover and a few details , I never would have known this was supposed to be regency--Queen Charlotte is brought in, but never really has any impact on the story. I hope the author has a better handle on her period detail and language by now (this came out in, I think, 2002). The key piece of information upon which the story turns appears glaringly obvious to the reader, but apparently never occurs to any of the characters beside the heroine (who knows "the secret"). Unnecessary zany friend character in person of "Fanny Figbottom" a former actress who is present apparently to be annoying and suggest poorly planned and awkwardly executed ideas to the heroine.
