Excellent start to Graham's civil war trilogy. If you like romances set during the civil war, you'll love this one. I highly recommend the whole series.

She was velvet and silk, emerald eyes and sunstruck hair.Kiernan Miller had married one man to protect her from another. She hated Jesse Cameron with a fierce passion. But she was a widow now,and he was the enemy at her door, come with weapons of fire to melt her icy heart..
He wore a Yankee uniform with inimitable Southern style,as true to the Union cause as he was treasonous to his rebel roots. Even as war engulfed them all,he would find his greatest adversary in the beauty who'd branded him a traitor, the woman he was born to possess.

HER REBEL SPIRIT DEFIED HIS YANKEE SOUL.
She was velvet and silk, emerald eyes and sunstruck hair, Kiernan Miller had married one man to protect her from another. She hated Jesse Cameron with a fierce passion. But she was a widow now, and he was the enemy at her door, come with weapons of fire to melt her icy heart....
HIS TRAITOR'S TOUCH IGNITED RAGING PASSIONS.

This is the first of 2 books in a series. Good story, I thought it was a bit like Forest Gump in that the characters seemed to be a involved in several incidents in the civil war, still I was drawn into the story and was moved by the passion and emotions shown on both sides of the war. Be sure to look for the second book And One Wore Gray!

Epic Civil War romance. 1st in a trilogy about the Cameron family. This story is about Jesse Cameron, Virginian and Southern by birth but Yankee by conscience. His love for his Confederate lass Kiernan Miller is heart wrenching. A little wordy but a good book

Great book. First of the trilogy. One Wore Gray, One Rode West, follow this.
First part of a Civil War trilogy, this book does a good job of interlacing the beginnings of the War Between the States with the actions of her fictionalized characters. It is 1859 and John Brown has come to Harpers Ferry.
Kiernan, who has been in love with Jesse Cameron most of her life, is good friends with Daniel Cameron and their sister Christa. Jesse makes a difficult decision to fight on the Union side, even though it estranges him from Kiernan, his family (they are wealthy Virginia plantation owners) and life-long neighbors.
Kiernan is a loyal rebel, a Virginian who, like Jesses brother Daniel, supports the Confederacy. Kiernan marries a man she doesnt love because he is a Confederate too. Thus begins a tale brimming with love, hate, desire and despair.
All the characters breathe, struggle and grieve that their way-of-life is disappearing. Jesses situation is a particularly fascinating study in the anguish of family unity coming apart over states rights. Graham does such a good job of building tension; if Jesse wasnt already used to going his own way (he was a physician as well as a soldier), it might be hard to believe he could withstand the pressure.
The thing that was a bit too convenient was the number of times Jesse was able to intervene in the local situation. However, Graham has a good answer for this Virginia (where the action was taking place) was embroiled most in the fighting, particularly during these early years.
The research done to make this novel realistic was extensive and it shows. I can hardly wait for the next book!
