This was an excellent book. So well written. It told the story of two policemen who were trapped in a situation that killed one officer and ruined the life of the other officer. It was a tragic story and the officer who lived you had to have tremendous sympathy for. Wambaugh has written some wonderful books and I give kudos for this one especially.

A true story, this tale as told by Wambaugh finds two young robbers encountering two young policemen, in an onion field. The fatal shootings evolve into one of the longest and most convoluted trials in California history. It is a fascinating and tragic story - a real parody of crime and punishment. An excellent read.

This is an excellent book. A true story that has pathos and sorry for the one that was killed and also for the one that lived. His life was a living nightmare. Joseph Wambaugh can put you right at the scene and his telling is great. I loved this book and also "The Sea Will Tell" by the same author.

This book is based on a true story and reads like a True Crime novel although fictional but made even scarier because it could happen to anyone...and did.
