I had ancestors that came on the Oregon Trail to Oregon so I enjoyed hearing about an area I know so well. It was interesting to hear about the competing claims of Russia, England, and the United States and the fight to secure the claims of each. The author did a good job of letting you know the different personalities within each group, enabling the reader to feel a sense of involvement with the characters and the time. A good read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction. I am looking forward to reading others in the series.

This is book 4 of a wagon train across America. Starts in Long Island, NY and ends in Oregon. Book 1 is Wagons West: Independence; Book 2 is Wagons West: Nebraska; Book 3 is Wagons West: Wyoming. All Four are very good. I read them all.

When covered wagons rolled along the Oregon Trail, crossed the Rockies, and brought the first settlers to the magnificent American West, one man became a legend in his own time. He was wagonmaster Whip Holt, and his blood ran hot with the kind of courage needed to tame a wild land. His indomitable spirit has been inherited, along with his vision of a proud American West, by his descendants in a family so extraordinary, so destined for greatness, that the whole world will know their names: THE HOLTS
