This is a terrific read and I look forward to reading the other books in the series. The reader really gets the feel of the time and place of the story. I enjoy reading historical fiction that then leads me to read nonfiction about the real people featured in the book. Oscar Wilde is a fascinating figure in history and literature and adding "detective" to his resume is an interesting twist. He'll never compete with Sherlock Holmes, but these Oscar Wilde mysteries could make for an interesting movie or TV series.

This is the second book I've read in this series. There are three books out now, and I hope to read the other one soon. I rather enjoyed this book. I enjoy reading Oscar Wilde and find this series to be exceptional in depicting the man as if he were alive today. Ite helps that Brandreth is the foremost biographer of Oscar Wilde.

This story takes place mostly in France. Wilde, along with his trusty new biographer, Robert Sherard, become a part of the La Grange Theater Group. Unfortunately for the head actor, Edmond La Grange, people around him begin to die...and those people make up his family.

In the end, quite a few people lose their lives, Wilde is attacked & we are given a bit of factual history when Brandreth shows us the last man to die by the dreaded guillotine.

I highly recommend this book to Oscar Wilde fans, mystery lovers and anyone who enjoys a good read.
