A collection of short stories. Some are rather funny.

A really extraordinary collection of tales and essays of the near and disant future, as humans and aliens encounter the secrets of the cosmos and of their own existence. In Dr. Pak's Preschool a woman discovers that her body has been called upon to work while still in the womb. In Natural Life a married couple finds their relationship threatened by the wonders of sex by stimulation. In Sshhh the arrival of benevolent aliens on Earth leads to frenzy, madness, and unimaginable joy. In Bubbles a sentient starcraft reaches the limits of the universe and dares to go beyond.
This collection comes from the author of SUNDIVER, STARTIDE RISING, THE UPLIFT WAR, THE POSTMAN--which has been made into a movie--THE PRACTICE EFFECT, and other well-known and tales.

This is an enjoyable selection of stories from David Brin. There is a little something for everyone in this collection.

I enjoyed some of the stories in this volume more than others, but for the most part I prefer the novels I've read by David Brin over this book. He's very good at creating interesting characters and worlds, and the sci-fi tales in this collection are quite thought-provoking and fun. However, his essays didn't really draw me in, and I actually skipped a couple of them which is a rare thing for me to do. I'm happy to have gotten this on PaperBackSwap and would recommend it to other borrowers, but personally I don't feel the need to keep this volume.
