At an early age, Evan Smoak was taken from a children's home and trained as an assassin, becoming Orphan X. After years of killing on behalf of the government, Evan went off the grid as he stepped away from the program. Now he has become the Nowhere Man, a guy who helps those who can't help themselves.
Now someone is picking off the former orphans and their handlers. President Jonathan Bennett originated the Orphan program when he was part of the Department of Defense. Now he wants it eliminated completely, along with anyone who could point fingers at him. Bennett is the person who had Evan's handler killed. Now he has hired Judd Holt, Orphan A, to eliminate Evan.
This is another fast-paced story in the Orphan X series. Evan must come up with a plan to kill the most protected man in the USA. This takes months of planning, always looking behind his back to see if Orphan A is on his tail. On top of that, a young man has called Evan's phone, asking for his help. Evan must juggle both cases without getting himself killed in the process. My rating: 4 Stars.

Fast-paced, suspenseful, love the characters and plot. Hard to put down.
In this fourth installment of the consistently excellent Orphan X series, Evan Smoak continues to pay penance for his past by helping strangers in desperate situations. However, his charity work keeps getting interrupted by government officials who want him eliminated in order to cover up their own misdeeds.
Out of the Dark features the return of characters from some of the previous novels and is a definite continuation of the series story line. Enough backstory is provided so that new readers likely won't be lost, but the book will be more engaging if one has read the previous entries.
Evan Smoak is like Jack Reacher on steroids: the stakes are higher and the action involves more bullets and explosives (though occasionally fists are used and head butts are dispensed). The action is ultra-violent at times, but Orphan X also has a heart.

Wow, what a roller coaster ride with extra shocks makes this the best thriller series ever!
Evan Smoak, The Nowhere Man also known as Orphan X is determined to kill the corrupt, narcissistic President of The United States. The President had his foster father/best friend killed and is targeting all the remaining Orphans; a secret government program training the best of the best as fighters and assassins. He wants them obliterated like they never existed. He secretly releases Orphan A and a bunch of killers out of prison to kill X.
How X sets his plan in motion and puts it all together anticipating and taking advantage of wrong moves of others is amazing. I just love this man!
This series gets better and better. You will not be able to put the book down.
