I just don't care this much about food.
I always love Stacey Ballis' books, she writes great characters and compelling stories but the "foodie lit" just doesn't do it for me. Her last few books, while great stories, get bogged down in all the endless chatter about ingredients and recipes. I really enjoyed the parts of the book I read, but found myself skipping over paragraph after paragraph of "food porn." If you're a lover of food and cooking you'll probably enjoy this book more than I did.

This is a fun romance where the love interest isn't as obvious as in some novels. If you enjoy good food, dogs, and/or geek culture (comic books, movie, etc.), you will thoroughly enjoy it. Any book that includes a cameo appearance of a favorite actor (who some may describe as "ruggedly handsome") gets thumbs up from me.
Trigger warning: A central theme is the death of the main character's best friend (not a spoiler - revealed on first page) so if that's a difficult subject, this may not be the book for you.
