THE OUTSIDE MAN by John North Patterson: The outside man is society lawyer Adam Shaw. First he is a Yankee and second he is in the South, which makes him a Damn Yankee. Then he finds the dead body of his best friends wealthy wife, and the friend is missing. No one other than Shaw really wants to open this can of worms, and the further it goes, even Shaw begins to have doubts. Pattersons books all seem to have an underlying social theme that sometimes can get in the way of the story, but they are still good reads.

Another trial laywer turned novelist who may actually be a better author than Grisham (but don't tell him I said it),
This author is as good as characterization as any I have ever read!
"Society lawyer Adam Shaw, in a southern town with lots of secrets, finds the dead body of his best friend's wealthy wife - and his friend is missing."
