Though the plot of this story is by itself rather simple, the real attraction of this narrative is the skill with which the author draws the reader into the very atmosphere of the setting and into the inner lives of the characters. With a surreal and unsettling accuracy, Ms. Hospital lures the reader into the events and subtly changing shifts in the balance of life in the harsh and unforgiving surrounds of the Australian Outback.
