I wish Goodreads allowed non-integer ratings, because this book was 4.5 stars for me. I loved Eli Cranor's first book Don't Know Tough, and Ozark Dogs was almost as good; I just didn't care for the ending. It felt a bit rushed and confusing. Otherwise this was a gritty, atmospheric thriller, and the characters of Jeremiah and his granddaughter Jo will break your heart.
