The movie was great - the book even better.

Fantastic story of the life of Henri Charriere. Never a dull moment for the reader. He writes incredible passages of escape attempts dependant on not-so-trustworthy characters - the jailers, other prisoners and local merchants. Numerous physical challenges - one wonders how a man could endure, yet you are compelled to believe his story, told years after his successful escape.

Although the author tends to render himself a bit larger than life, this is a wonderful, absorbing, and upbuilding story. Well worth reading and even rereading.

Such an engrossing read! I read this book back in the 1970s, and just loved it's adventure and beautifully written style. I have read it again several times since. The author has a way of writing to enable the reader to be right there with him as he tells the story.
