This was a fairly quick read, and a lovely story. Set in Appalachia during the 1920's, this book is about the marriage of a Cherokee girl who marries a white man and leaves her family to live with his. I love the way her character is written, with strength and wisdom -- as she learns to fit into a different world, to deal with hardships and betrayals, and ultimately find a unique way to demonstrate forgiveness.

One of the best books I've picked up in a while! Mr. House writes with such a lyrical pen - his descriptions are beautiful. While reading, I sometimes felt I was watching a movie in my head. I read the book in one day...I couldn't put it down!

A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY IN THE WOODS OF KENTUCKY

I love everything I've ever read by Silas House. His stories are so engrossing, his characters so finely crafted--his books are gems. This takes place in rural Kentucky and tells the story of Vine, a Cherokee woman who marries a white man and comes to live in the tiny town of God's Creek. Highly recommended!

While certainly not a happy beach book, this was a very good read. Well written and poignant, it touched on many different topics -- discrimination, poverty, crime, love, forgiveness. I would recommend it.

This novel has been described as lyrical, poignant, beautiful, compelling, eloquent. It certainly is all that..it is also breathtaking. It pulls you into the Appalachian South and the life of those portrayed within. I live near these mountains so it was great pleasure for me to imagine this happening. Written so beautifully it is almost painfull to read. It's a story you won't want to let go of in your mind and your heart. I'll carry this for the rest of my life. Once you read this story you won't be able to forget it. I actually had to remove one book from my 10 most favorite on my profile page to add this one and that wasn't easy.
