How many teacher's here use Springboard as a reading text for their students.

I would like to know what you think of the selection of books they use in their texts. There is a text that I think is inappropriately used for 6/7th graders. I would like to know your opinion of the book they use. "Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes". I think it should be used for 8 grade and up.

But who am I to say. What say you?

After all this time. Not one comment. Why?

Is Springboard particular to Florida. Surely, some teachers have read the book.

I'm still interested in your thoughts

Thanks

I personally have not read it or even heard of it.  I just looked at www.arbookfind.com and they have it listed as YA (9-12th grades).  Just from the description of the book, I'd wholeheartedly agree!!!

I've worked three bookstores and specialized in children's books.  I have never heard of that book.  It appears this book was published in 1993.
In looking at a summary, I also, would agree that this is a book that is not appropriate to children of 6th/7th grade.

If you would like to discuss this with your child's school, I may suggest you broach it as to why they chose this book for that age group and what was the criteria for selecting the book.  My friend worked in book publishing for schools and criteria was very very narrowly defined, oftentimes allowing some teachers a limited selection.

Hope this helps.
