Normally I LOVE Linda Lael Miller. I'm currently reading her McKettricks of Texas series so when i saw this at the store i was like..."Oh definitely getting"...Boy was i wrong. So last night i was lying in bed and began reading..and than checking to see if i had the right author and than reading and than rechecking again. It was badly written, barely any EMOTION in the book. It was like itt was a completely different author i was reading. Linda Lael Millers books flowed greatly and i loved the stories and i could always tell because after a while you notice a certain pattern in authors writing, but this was...so emotionless, all words no feeling, badly plotted, confusing at times, random most of the time, didn't have a "flow" to it. It was like it was just written and than published without any editing etc etc...
About the book. It has two stories. The first one, Linda Lael Millers story was the most waasted 3 hours of my life that it took to read the book. The "relationship" between Libby and Jess is all fight till about the second day where they start making out and having sex all through to the end randomly. I mean puh-leez. She had just gone through a nasty divorce and her step-son had just died and she just jumps into bed with the guy who right from the beginning is nasty to her. It was uninspiring, uninteresting and WEIRD. Sometimes with the space of four lines guys would go from talking and laughing to all out suspiciousness and hate. Really was not feeling this book and was a total waste of the $7.99 that i paid for it. God i wish i could return it!! So here i am posting it for everyone elses view.

Agree with Loretta H. (jacksgirl) - KY, that this feels like a DP book. While her books are fine, and I have many, they are not up to the standard or quality of the typical LLM stories. For DP fans, you will enjoy this read and it will feel familiar to you. For died in the wool LLM fans, pass this one by...

While published in 2010, the Linda Lael Miller story actually has a copyright date of about 20 years ago. And it shows. She (or her publisher) dusted off an old story and wrapped it in a shiny new cover. This story was OK, but Miller has mastered her craft in the last 2 decades. She should have re-edited this story to satisfy the expectations she's created with her more recent--and more skilled--writing.

Two excellent stories for the price of one! Carla Cassidy was new to me but loved her style, as well as always Linda Lael Millers. Both love stories that warm your heart and are hard to put down.

Part of the Bargain had the feel of a diana palmer book. which is ok by me.

Perhaps I have higher standards for books, but I'm the kind of person who likes books with strong female characters. This book portrayed a woman who stayed married to a man even through many infidelities, sex that felt like rape and the death of a stepson that she had to survive alone. Libby returns home in the hopes of finding solace, only to find that her friend Stacey (married to her cousin) has been spreading a rumor that Libby is his mistress and that he's leaving his wife for her. Stacey's brother Jess is in love with her and has been since he was about 7, yet he can't seem to get his head out of his ass long enough to realize it.
The story line was fine, but the fact that Jess believes her one minute and then doesn't the next is infuriating because Libby just seems to take all the crap that every man dishes out. She's like a walking, talking door mat that everyone wipes their feet on and she doesn't have the spine to stop the cycle. Even in the end she appears to be the better person by going to the man who's hurt her time and time again.
Not one of the better books I've read. It was hard to keep reading in order to finish it.
