Excellent story of part of Winnie Mandela's life as presented by a narrator through interviews. Note that the book is written in first-person speech. The story is engaging and it is believable, particularly if one has read African Women's writing, yet the larger question arises concerning whether, in this case, Mrs. Mandela rather than the narrator is reliable. Good use of a short introduction, footnotes and excellent use of appendices and pictures.
Heart wrenching story. The survival of all the individuals under the worst conditions is a testament to the spirit of each one of them.
