This is my least favorite of Streatfeild's "Shoes" books - it seems slow in contrast to the others. During WW-II, Selina, whose parents are in Asia and who is living in England with her doctor uncle and his wife and children, receives from a relative in the USA a beautiful party dress with matching shoes. The children decide to put on a pageant featuring Selina in her dress, to raise money for the war effort, and involving many of the village people. Various difficulties ensue.
