*jumps up and down* OMG, I loooved this book! I've waited to read it for days and it did NOT let me down. This is like my fave book of the series and I feel like a fangirl right now! I might have spoiled some things so be warned. I was just way too excited when I wrote this!!
All through the first two book I've read about Wraith, his bad attitude, his snark, and his horrible, chilling past, and it's made me itch to read his book. To read more about him, and why he says and does the things he does. And boy, did I get those questions answered.
Wraith is a very troubled vampire/demon. He was tortured, and nearly died at the hands of his very own vampire mother and their people. He's never taken to obeying rules, and he's always stirring up some kind of trouble.
At the beginning of the book something bad happens. Vague much? Lol. The something bad is life or death, and it forces Wraith to seek out a charm that will keep him alive. Easy, right?
No.
The charm is currently possessed by Serena, who is a special little human. Vague again, but it's so juicy you have to read it on your own. For Wraith to get the charm, he must sleep with Serena. Again, easy, right?
Not at all.
Serena is 1.) a virgin, and 2.) a human (we all know Wraith's issue with human females). Oh yeah, if she looses the charm she dies. Yep, no biggie.
That right there is enough drama, and suspence to keep you on your toes, but that's not all!!
Other things to look for? The hospital is falling apart. Eidolon and Shade have a scary sickness. The human race might die. Kynan gets a HUGE shock. Gem realizes she's not a doormat to be stepped on. The brothers as a whole get a HUGE shock. Wraith gets a HUGE surprise.
And, of course, we get to see the real Wraith. Awww, right?
There is a lot to look forward to in this book, and I'd suggest everyone read it. Right now. Really, go out, and buy it or borrow. If stealing wasn't illegal I'd say steal it, but it is against the law, so don't do that. Please.

I find Larissa Ione's writting to be disturbingly addictive. Her first two Demonica books were great. This, the third, is not quite as good but still above average. In short it's a series about demons who run a hospital for other demons and supernatural beings. I found the entire concept of a demon hospital to be delightfully creepy. I also like that Ione isn't afraid to create characters who's base nature is evil, and yet allow them to have a love story. It's seedy, gothic cheesiness at it's best.
This book in particular is about Wraith, a Seminus demon who's entire life consists of mating and fighting. Wraith is best described as messed up. He was tortured as a child and generally has no clear grip on right or wrong. An assasin infects him with a deadly poison that begins to kill him slowly--and there is no cure. As he dies, the hospital begins to fall apart, because Wraith and his brothers have bound their life-forces to it. The brothers rush to find a solution, and discover that Wraith's life might be saved if he can acquire a special charm that would make him human. To do this he must take the virginity of the charm's current possesor, a human named Serena. The catch is that once the charm is taken, Serena will die. Wraith sets out intending to steal the charm as quickly as possible, but ends up falling in love with Serena instead. He is forced to make a choice between his life and hers.
I was surprised by how romantic this was. Wraith is not my favorite character, but he does manage to redeem himself a lot in the end. Serena is interesting, but doesn't change or develope much. The plot is fairly fast paced--almost too much so. I couldn't really say why this wasn't as good as the other two, but it was just not on the same level. Overall, worth reading.

4.25 stars!
Larissa Ione is such a skilled writer she brings the reader into the underground world of truly inventive demons with ease. The reader is barely aware of the world building and can focus on the relationships and the plot. This book focuses on Wraith, a tortured soul (literally), who lives a solitary life of violence and sex. To me, he is the most interesting brother so far in the series and Ione lets us hear his inner voice with all its sarcasm and humor. The heroine is up to the challenge since she has lived most of her life "charmed" and protected - so she has a wonderful sense of invincibility - until she is chest to chest with Wraith. The sexual tension is tight and the emotional vulnerability of both characters is heartbreaking. This is a wonderful addition to the Demonica Series - read it!

While I liked Passion Unleashed, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two books in the series. It just didn't grip me right away and I wasn't as invested in Wraith and Serena. I liked them together and I was curious to see what Ione would do to give them a HEA, but felt that everything was wrapped up a little too neatly. Wraith didn't surprise me at all with the way he dealt with Serena. He seemed like such a hard ass, but we got glimpses of his kindness before. Serena was likable enough, even though she did stupid things sometimes. I understood though since she was virtually invincible and I liked how she learned quickly when she needed Wraith.
I think my main problem with this story was the similarities to JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. In the first two books, I thought the writing style was similar, but not enough to detract from Ione's world. That was not the case in this one, IMO. It really took me away from the story too many times and it is the main reason I didn't like it more.

Seminus demon Wraith has been poisoned and only has weeks to live. His only cure is to take the charm of a Marked Sentinel. The only uncloaked Marked Sentinel known to the brothers is Serena Kelley, an archaeologist searching for lost treasures. Wraith figures this will be easy. He can use his powers as an incubus to seduce Serena, taking her virginity and gaining the charm. But Serena will die if she loses the charm. Suddenly Wraith's plan is in jeopardy when he actually falls for Serena and questions whether he can go through with his seduction.
This is a great addition to the Demonica series. I've been waiting for Wraith's story and it doesn't disappoint. Not only to we get a good plot, lots of action and a well written romance, but we also get more of Kynan and Gem's story. All of the characters from the past books make an appearance. We also are introduced to a new character who looks like he will play a major part of the series. My rating: 5 Stars.
