One of the notable series about the female detective
Seventh in the series with NYPD Lt Sigrid Harald; no problem if you haven't read the others. Maron doesn't spend much of these books focusing on Harald's life outside the force - it's there, but understated. The plot in this one focuses on the murder of a detective soon to retire. He has some connection to Harald's father, also on the force, and killed in the line of duty when she was a baby. I don't feel this is one of Maron's stronger books. It's rather slow-paced, and there are a lot of shifts in POV - first person to 3rd person, and quite a few different third-person views. You don't get a good strong sense of any one of them, even Harald.
