a plot that involves a bronze age mythical demon, a cyber-enhanced female warrior, an AI-controlled combat vessel, over-the-top escapes, two distinct alien races, believable politics, humor and some really good writing

If you've run across "In Fury Born" and are trying to figure out why the plot lines read basically identical it's because the later published In Fury Born is a (much) longer version of Path of the Fury. Mr Weber went back and added all the build up material to the beginning of this book ... the stuff that chronicles the protagonist's military exploits and training which led up to this book. In other words.. if you like long books get In Fury Born because the second half of it is actually this book. BTW, excellent read.

Top notch space opera by the author of the Honor Harrington series.
Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed that the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But the pirates made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home world, tortured and murdered her family, and then left HER for dead.
After the death of all she holds dear, Alicia decides to turn 'pirate' herself, and she steals a cutting-edge AI ship from the Empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders, and (of course) the pirates really want her dead. But Alicia DeVries has two allies nobody knows about, allies as implacable as she herself is. One is a self-aware computer intelligence, and the second is a creature from the mists of Old Earth's most ancient legends. And this trio of furies won't rest until vengeance is served!

Not bad, but not near the top of my list for David Weber books. I would read it again, but won't go looking for it. Love most of Mr. Weber's work, though.

A story about a woman, a self-aware computer, and an ancient goddess (actually a fury) teamed to avenge a wrong and save the Empire. Written with lots of action and likable interaction with the characters.
