From Wiki:
The Path to Power (1982) covers Johnson's life up to his failed 1941 campaign for the United States Senate. It won a National Book Critics Circle Award, 1983, a Washington Monthly Best Political Book Award, 1983, and an H.L. Mencken Award,,,"
This is the first of 3 in print volumes of Johnson, there is a 4th volume in the works.
I have read all three, garnered many insights into the political nature of a man most American only remember for his landmark Civil Rights Laws and for being hounded from office over the Viet Nam war.
Caro's focus is political power, how it works, how it is used.
His first book was the Power Broker, a Pulitzer winning examination of Robert Moses in New York.

I strongly recommend reading all 3 of the Johnson volumes.
