Though set in a remote era and an exotic land, Lauren Haney's series of ancient Egyptian mysteries have an immediacy that is entirely convincing and accessible. This is largely due to the down-to-earth, likeable character of Lt. Bak, whose sensibilities, resourcefulness and persistence speak with directness and truth to the reader.
The entire series is unfailingly fascinating and satisfying. The only fault that comes to mind is the question "why are there no more books?" I've read them all with great enjoyment and am left wanting more.
